Cutting commentary need not be applied given the dire nature of the situation however I hasten to add it is not surprising. Leadership starts and for the most part ends at setting a path, even a tough one, for others to follow. Sadly "leaders" have all but left the building for at least twenty years now and what masquerades in the elected office are those who tell the public what they want to hear as opposed to establishing the direction to take.
This is a tough stance to hear and one that much of the public will scratch its head considering. The shift in society over the last twenty-some years is that presently they not only accept what they are told without debate or careful review but they want to hear delightful blue sky scenario's, rousing speeches that are hollow on cold hard facts.
Sadly this means that the present economic nightmare is being treated in a manner that we can expect a long series of negative reactions from the policies implemented. What should have been a slow ease out of trough in the near future is turning into another boom-bust, inflation driven "recovery" with long term plans for prosperity have been ignored.
The examples are endless and far too exhausting to post each lest this become a rallying board for protest. Yet with that in-mind, it is time for the public to rise up and ask, can anyone lead? Is there a leader with vision or merely one with hidden agenda to suit lobbying groups well heeled wishes. Notions of readying the nation for the future with aggressive volleys into mass transit such as MagLev trains, much less heavy cargo rail to build a foundation for manufacturing have all but been ignored as the country is trapped in a business paradigm of fifty years ago. "It", if there can be such a bold commentary of a single item being named, is that the country must begin to plan for the future with bold decisive moves orchestrated by a leader.
Yet the coffin nails are being driven-in one by one. As plans for a Health care program are slammed through Congress, few understand that is coming on the backs of massive personal tax hikes that will fuel a permanent slowdown of investment dollars. This is not the "change" that was voted for and in-fact will cause further economic strife in the country from the bottom up and must be stricken down at all costs. To tax the rich, or in-fact the upper middle-income class during a period of economic upheaval is not only foolhardy but further proof of the lack of sensible leadership at the helm.
