Though it will receive little notice in the mainstream media, US President Obama's State of the Union address exposed the crumbling decorum in politics and heavy handedness from the highest office whilst tearing the fabric of the US Constitution apart.
The President strongly criticized Supreme Court of the United States recent decision in Citizens United v. FEC by saying, "open(ed) the floodgates for special interests, including foreign corporations, to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities." His commentary not only suggested a lack of thorough review of the decision but when the President casts disparaging commentary, that is equally incorrect, of the Supreme Court of the United States, he undermines the fabric for which the country is built upon and the Constitution of the United States that all Americans pledge a allegiance to.
Though the President would be well advised to read the courts decision more closely, as opposed to reading ill qualified second tier reviews, his scathing attack on the Supreme Court of the United States was appalling and further puts in question to what length the backroom heavy handedness will go. Whilst there are a number of questions regarding the agenda of such comments, to ignore the separation of judiciary duties and political office is a slippery slope that leaves the US Constitution dangling in the wind. Given that he urged elected officials to move beyond the aisle to serve the people, the people they serve should be appalled with the Presidents comments.
Justice Samuel Alito, said to mouth the words "not true", understands not only the inaccuracy of the President's statement but also how it is potentially one of the most destructive elements in US politics today. Though the lack of cannon fire in the media or what is humorously referred to a "citizen journalist" further establishes how ill qualified many in journalism are today, this event will gain worldwide attention as the President openly criticizes the Supreme Court of the United States and attempts to circumvent the US Constitution.
